A Romantic Rhapsody

“Our lives are pretty much work! Sometimes we’d be together ten hours a day…” Katelynn smiles.

In fact, their first date was at a sub shop right around the corner from their place of employment, The Tower Club. Stephan protests with a wink, “She doesn’t even really like sandwiches! She tricked me. I thought I was gonna get sandwiches all the time.”

The romance between Katelynn and Stephan blossomed from working in the dining room together. But maintaining a professional air – and with many of their coworkers being friends – they kept their relationship a secret.

“We got to know each other as colleagues first,” says Katelynn. Over time, only a select few knew they were a couple so it was a surprise when Stephan told the crew he was going to pop the question! Though, these two knew they were going to start a life together. Their families knew they were committed and started saving for an intimate Florida ceremony. Yet, Stephan had a better idea.

They were officially engaged while working The Tower’s Thanksgiving brunch in front of over one hundred people, including their families. Her future groom convinced her the family wished to take pictures together.

“I should have known this was happening because he does this approach when he helps other people get engaged!” Katelynn gushes, “It’s a really good trick! I’ve seen him do it a thousand times at the top of The Tower.” He got down on one knee and the tears commenced.

They set the date for Sunday, January 3rd – only two months away! The couple, as well as their Tower family, would have the day off to celebrate together.

“I wanted something classic and timeless but alternative at the same time,” Katelynn states. Both she and her mother planned the entire event together. Katelynn and Stephan chose  Hotel Vandivort for their venue as it would match their modern vision as well as being the first of their friends to get married at this location. Clear chairs, blush and wine roses, vases and candelabras… While Katelynn is a fan of darker colors, she went for a light ethereal feel and maintained darker accents throughout the design.

But she had priorities. “I want my wedding. I want my dress. I want my cake. That’s pretty much it!” Katelynn laughs. She tried on hundreds of styles before she found the one. How did she know? Well, she didn’t want to change a thing. And the ruched gown with straps of elegant beading and embellishments was almost as beautiful as the bride. She does have a tip when choosing a dress, “Make sure you have enough time to order your dress in and then get it altered!”

She got her cake as well; Katelynn has a passion for confections as she went to school for baking. They chose three styles (two created by Vic from The Tower Club) of strawberry and carrot, blueberry lemon, and a chocolate naked cake. Stephan was equally excited, “I’m a big fan of cake. She’s a fan of baking cake. I’m a fan of eating cake!”

Entertainment was provided by Nic Keith of All That Music with tunes alternating throughout the night between decades from the 40’s to 90’s alternative rock. Instrumental versions of rock songs were played during the ceremonial entrance and recession.

The Vandivort not only provided a delicious reception dinner but changing suites for bride and groom and a gorgeous backdrop, as well. “There were so many good places to take pictures inside!” Katelynn beams. The newlyweds stayed in the Vandivort’s Master Suite that night and were greeted with champagne. Stephan adds, “They pretty much bent over backwards for us.”

The Morris’s took a trip to Disneyworld for their honeymoon, wearing Minnie and Mickey Mouse ‘bride’ and ‘groom’ ears. Katelynn was excited that, “Every employee said congratulations. Random people said congratulations!”

Her enthusiasm, which spilled over into their honeymoon, was contagious throughout the entire process. Stephan laughs heartily when he says, “Seeing her so happy… That made it all worth the planning. That she did. That I watched her do.”
